Documenting Colonial Policies and Building the Narrative
In the context of the confrontation with the Israeli colonial project, the importance of documentation emerges as a political act before being a mere media tool. Documenting colonial policies—such as home demolitions, settlement expansion, forced displacement, arrests, and the ongoing siege—is not just about recording violations. It is a process of systematic exposure of settler-colonial practices and a means to anchor the Palestinian narrative in the face of erasure and distortion.
Based on this vision, we organized a training titled “Documenting Colonial Policies and Building the Narrative”, held between April and July 2025 with the participation of 25 journalists and activists. The training aimed at empowering participants to transform raw documentation into a political and human narrative capable of reaching and influencing both local and international audiences.
The training focused on:
- Professional journalistic writing that conveys the Palestinian story with both political and human depth.
- Developing media campaigns rooted in real issues and serving advocacy goals.
- Producing visual and written content that can challenge colonial narratives and expand spheres of influence.
- Combating misinformation and disinformation targeting the Palestinian cause, by reinforcing the credibility and accuracy of Palestinian discourse.
- Media interview skills, enabling participants to engage with Arab and foreign media using clear political messaging and deliberate language.
Ultimately, building the Palestinian narrative is not a media luxury but an act of resistance in itself. It provides Palestinians with the ability to articulate an independent political and human discourse, resisting attempts by the colonial project to impose its narrative on the world. This training is part of a broader effort to strengthen and establish the Palestinian narrative as a political and historical truth that cannot be erased.
